O.k. I am editing this message to share my findings: according to the last version of the manual, available as a download, there is indeed a 3-minute freeze that applies even when you activate the alarm (you can reduce it to 1 minute by removing a jumper though). That's why they say one shoudn't use it as an exit/entry zone.

But after some more testing, I have concluded that the one I have behave normally except that... the sensitivity is way too low! It detects me only when I am less than 3 meters from the detector perhaps. Not farther. I even tried to crawl on the ground like a cat (what would one do to test an alarm!!!) and I am totally undetected. And this is not the "Tierimmun" version that I have! So I will return it.

I contacted the retailer from whom I purchased the device and apparently they are responsible for the customer service, not directly ABUS.
